S is for summer

Happy, happy days,

Joyous days which:

Lengthening in daylight;

Balmy in soft moon nights;

Inviting us to be sitting outside;

Offering enjoyment of flower fragrance of evening;

Suggesting outings which are exciting;

Listing different venues for exploring;

Inviting family days out, good for bonding;

Rewarding delightfully early labour in the garden;

Enticing you to the seaside, often being a firm holiday favourite;

Allowing for a tour in the countryside;

Walking, hill climbing, even flying if liking;

Floating up, up in a hot air balloon, up and away,

As if saying ‘What a fabulous summer’s day!’

You could be picnicking in garden or town park

Or even go further afield if up early with the lark!

Many gardens open, museums, castles with a keep;

Or meadow rambles amidst buttercups, dandelions and daisies,

Is sufficient an invitation to make us feel happy.

A long summer’s day can be ended with a supper sizzling barbeque.

Whilst a favourite for children is a trip to a farm or the zoo.

Or if handy at DIY outside,

A tree house built, or shepherd’s hut modified

Is a splendid place in which children can hide.

Children love to be mostly outside.

Becoming organised, planning and thinking ahead,

A holiday can be taken in days out and about.

You can go to somewhere renowned, like the famous Chatsworth,

Or a stately property with splendid surrounding grounds,

Such as Scone Palace, the home of Scottish Kings,

Or Buckingham Palace, famous residence of our Queen.

So very many places to visit in these halcyon days,

Formal gardens and fine architectural buildings at which to amaze.

If interested in medieval history, in Derbyshire, Haddon Hall exudes mystery.

Homes of authors like the Bronte sisters,

Are a fascinating glimpse into a life of fame.

‘Abbotsford’ captivated Sir Walter Scott, a famous author’s home,

Glimpse the gardens and you readily see why interest here runs high.

S is for summer, hopefully blessed by the sun,

Captivating days, packed really full with such fun!

days, finding so much to amaze at! Amen.
